The Secret Dream of The Blind Student

Blind Student

Ihsan was a young boy in Karang Kadhuk Village, a small village in a small town in the eastern region of Java Islan. He was born with no normal eyes. His parents were poor villagers with very low incomes. They haven’t enough money to help Ihsan with eye surgery. Ihsan couldn’t see well like other children. He was quite positive-minded, but sometimes life became so hard and tearful when too many friends humiliated him. He felt too shy, sometimes crying.

One day he heard his parents talking about a Pilgrimage to Mecca, The holy city in Saudi Arabia. It was the dream of almost all Muslims in the world because of the great reward. His parents heard from a Sheikh that for those who go on pilgrimage or go Hajj to Mecca, their sin would be forgiven. They would be like a newlyborn baby without any sin. So that’s why so many Muslims struggle to go there, including Ihsan’s parents though they have not enough money. For them, it was just a dream. The money they need was too much for it.

Sometimes Ihsan and friends talk about amal salih that they can do to make their parents happy. They were young learners and recently heard from their religious teachers that pleasing parents could make their future be successful and full of happiness. They flew away off their imagination, “I’m gonna bring them to Meccah,” Hadi said. “Me too,” replied the others. Ihsan just kept silent, he thought it was impossible for him as he was not normal like his friends, but he really wanted to.

“Everyone could do amal salih. You can do whatever you can,” the religious teacher said.

Later Ihsan was interested in memorizing Quran. His religious teacher describes the happiness of Quran Memorizers in the hereafter. Allah will dress them in very beautiful dresses: crowns of honor and beautiful garments of honor. Their parents will be crowned as well with the light of paradise. They will go to the best paradise with their spouses and descendants, the highest level of paradise, and will live there with The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Ihsan remembers his parents when listened to it. He thought it was better than only bringing them to Mecca. It’s mentioned in the Hadith:

It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’aan (i.e., the one who memorized and studied it): ‘Read, advance in status and recite as you used to do in the world, for your status will be commensurate with the last aayah that you recite.’”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2914; he said this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. Al-Albaani said in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, no. 2329, it is hasan saheeh. Also narrated by Abu Dawood, 1464). (source)

 Another hadith:

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Qur’aan will come on the Day of Resurrection and will say, ‘O Lord, adorn him.’ So he will be given a crown of honour to wear. Then it will say, ‘O Lord, give him more.’ So he will be given a garment of honour.’ Then it will say, ‘O Lord, be pleased with him.’ So Allaah will be pleased with him. Then it will be said to him, ‘Recite and advance in status, and for each verse you will gain one more hasanah (reward for good deed).”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2915. He said, this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. Al-Albaani said in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 2328, this is hasan). (source)

The religious teacher also said that Allah will allow them to go to paradise through all doors and enjoy all levels of paradise. Allah commands all Angels / Malaikat to welcome the Quran memorizers and families at the door of paradise with salam (Islamic greeting).

Ihsan was amazed by his explanation and being very very motivated to memorize Quran. He couldn’t read Quran with his eyes well. He used Braille Quran given for free by the owner of the school. Then he was very bussy with Quran. Days passed, months passed, and Ihsan grew with his memorization. He enjoyed his life with Quran. He was more happy though spent most of his time alone, thus he almost never got bullied again. It might also be because most of his friends gained more knowledge of akhlaq so they understand that bullying was forbidden, but some were still naughty.

One day Ihsan joined Quran recitation competition among students. His teacher delegated him and two of his classmates. Ihsan felt proud of, it means that his skill in recitingn Quran improved. But, he failed to win the competition. He was the runner up. However, Allah gave him another reward. Someone approached him and told him that he wanted Ihsan and parents to join him to go to Mecca.
